Comments: This is the latest Hotel of many new ones opening in this rapidly expanding city. They are offering a high standard of accommodation for a very reasonable price. The Lobby is well laid out and spacious. At present you can only eat in the cafe adjacent to the lobby, which lacks ambience. There is a large area on the ground floor for shops etc. It still lies empty, but is sure to fill up, as this city continues to attract new business

It runs perpendicular to Ave. Eduardo Mondlane and joins this road at it's eastern end close to the Cathedral. As you travel down Ave. 25th September you will come across the University on your right, the Hotel Milenio is just after this with a large glassed frontage

Comments: The name comes from the range of Inselbergs that surround this property. It is a stunning location. You would never know that you were so close (20km) to a major Mozambican city. Owned by a Portuguese family, they live on site and manage a small farmstead as well. A reservoir was created in order to supply the farm with its water needs. This is now loaded with catfish and the centrepiece of the property
Directions: See roads and services for this sector for how to get to Nampula. They are out on the road that runs to Cuamba. It is the same road that Hotel Bamboo is on. As you enter Nampula from the west on Avenida do Trabalho, go past the police checkpoint, then take the first turn on the left. This is not a tarmaced road and is not in good condition, but it is hardpacked and can be driven by a 4x2

Comments: This is owned by a small Mozambique/Indian chain who now own Hotel Brasilia. Recol is located on the busy Avenida do Trabalho (main road into the city from the west). It was reopened in March 2006 and has undergone extensive renovations, as will Brasilia. A comfortable and clean place. It has a very secure feeling to it with secure parking. Rooms are en-suite with hot running water and come with TV plus Bar/Fridge. You will have the choice of executive suite, suite, casual or single, air conditioned rooms, should you stay here. We stayed in a casual and found it spacious with many amenities including; kettle with coffee/ tea sachets, fridge stocked with cold drinks and chocolate (all are offered on the honesty system) and TV (that has some basic satellite channels, one film, one news and mainly music). They have an excellent system of checking each room, when it is vacated, by only one person who will remove any personal goods and keep them for there safe return to the customer. There needs to be more of this in the tourism business, as we are all forgetful, sometimes!

Quinta Nasa is on the Nacala side of Nampula, so if you are coming up the country continue through Nampula and just out the other side before you reach the petrol station and police check. It's on the right hand side if you are traveling in an easterly direction. There is a turn off that is signposted. You will need to continue along this track for another 3km

Comments: A new guest house just recently opened on the island (Dec. '06). This is a restoration project that has been done very well. Ana and Zico are the owners who have put so much care and attention into this dream. It incorporates an internal garden with peaceful lounge area. It is nicely located to the north of the island and has great views from it's roof top.
Directions: Not easy to find at first it is hidden away on a back street of the island. They are behind the new Girassol Commercial Centre to the north. Go to the rank of shops under the arches, which is past the Police Station and Martime Centre on the West side of the island. This is where you leave your car outside the Missanga Souvenir Shop, there is a guard to keep an eye on it. Opposite this shop there is a street running perpendicular to the one your car is parked on. Walk down here and then take the first left, about 50m up this street, you will see blue doors with a blue lamp above on your left, this is Casa Azul.

Comments: A well established operation (not the standard complexo touristico place, nor the standard dive charter) with a variety of accommodation options from wooden A-frames with en suite, a double room and dormitory, plus camping, complemented by a poolside restaurant, generally considered to serve the best food. Situated on a high ledge providing expansive views of the bay with stone steps down to the beach area with many unusual rock formations. A privately managed marine protected area has been established around the lodge, so the snorkeling and diving right off the shore is spectacular, and the beach safe. There are kilometres of beaches to be explored in this area and interesting snorkeling in generally calm and clean water from 23-29C.

Comments: This is a small lodge focused on deep sea fishing. The accommodations are rondawels not far from the beach. The owner was not present at the time of our investigation. Unfortunately we witnessed a great deal of ornamental dried fish, coral and shells being sold at the entrance of this lodge. Do not buy!
